Run 697 Culmstock Inn - Why Bother & Pink2Lips

Hounds:  Bangkok, Dormouse, Steffan, Phantom, Big Bird, Floater, Derek, DiTW, David, Grasshopper, Liz, WAM, Ferret, JB  on down the Culmstock Inn

The witches flew in – on time…. A group of merry hashers already gathered, waiting for the off.
Brief instructions, we were told it wasn’t a long one…were we to believe it?  On out to the left, and then to the right taking us along the river.  We fan out, as the trail runs dry through a field, Ferret skipping over a bridge like a Billy goat gruff, (who could be the Troll I wonder…).  He returns, saying no flour, more pondering and searching, assistance is needed and we are pointed in the right direction…. over the bridge….. Through some fields and tracks and we pop out onto Silver Street.   Short bit of road running, then back onto muddy tracks and fields, the long grass in some fields  hard to run through – I think it was at this point a certain running gait of one our hashers was noted!
Out onto a lane, I check right, which proves to be wrong… on on called to the left.  A nice steady, slightly uphill run takes us to a cross-roads - obviously it is the up hill option, but it does take us to regroup, where we are treated to donuts!  I believe some even tackled two.  (although you would have to go some to beat Paperwork at the Blackdown Beauty … 11 scones….). Check it out and on on is called, we take a left and wend our way through more fields and tracks, until we cross Hemyock road and then cut through towards the river again.  The fields take us back to Culmstock.
The hares were telling the truth it was a relatively short, but perfectly formed run.  Thank you.
Once we were all settled in the pub, Ferret called attention and gave us a quick reminder of the Down Down Song, for good reason, as there was to be a naming.   The particular running gait of a particular hasher had certainly not gone unnoticed and John will now be the proud owner of the Hash name ‘Grasshopper’.
For all of you (including me!) who still don’t really know the words, a reminder below.
Traditional Down Down Song
Here's to ……….. he's true blue.
He's a hasher through and through,
He's a piss pot so they say.
Tried to get to heaven,
But he went the other way.
Drinking down, down, down, down,
Down, down, down, down,
Down, down, down, down,
Down, down, down, down.

Run 696. Half Moon, Clayhydon - Down in the Woods

.
Hounds:  Bangkok, Ferret, Phantom, Dormouse. Wham!, Floater, P2L, Why Bother. Big Bird

True to form P2L and Why Bother arrive early again.
Anyway cars start to arrive and do the usual that’ll do parking thing only to be told be the resident parking warden to move to the posh car par or double park. Some keen ones took note and moved to the posh end!
All assembly and a quick briefing from the hare and off we go with one particular very senior hound deciding that it must be that way as he saw no flour on the way in, doh! Stupid man, and off right and left on a gravel path to a check on the road. Lots of checking if you call in that or was it just some random hashers disappearing up their own a***s?.
On on called and away we go down past a barn and left up and through open pasture to yet more checking another field to a short double check and on down for a quick natural break for two elder statesmen and on up (something mentioned about barbed wire and keep on your left) bit shiggy but on up and right only to find the sweety stop but no sweets is this a P2L and Why Bother hash? no the hounds are a blind as bats, with the sweets under their noses!?!
Quick stop and off we go with some twittering on about “are we home yet and how much longer”…..
Few more checks and the pubs in sight, lovely run, many thanks to DitW.
Just about to enter the pub and get accosted by the locals only to find they are ex golfers from Tiverton!! Anyway moving on beer needed…….Come to leave and guess what the golfing clan have drunk a little more and are reminiscing how good they were, not, as you can tell I couldn’t escape quick enough!!!

Run 695 - Fyne Court - Brush Off

Run 695.  June 2012.        Fyne Court O/D Travellers Rest.        Hare: Simon
Pack of hounds: Bangkok, Jackie, Paul C, David, Just Bull, John, Simon, Martini, Phantom, Dormouse, WAM, Down in the Woods, Floater, Ferret, Mark, Stephan, Dripped On, Nick T, Michelle B (plus some other hounds who did not go drinking so sorry missed your names off).
Fast, fellowship of fine figures fly at fabulous Fyne.
Many scantily clad hashing hounds gathered on a very warm, humid evening for frantic, frolic around Fyne’s footpaths. Simon, the hare, was seen brandishing a broom in the car park to sweep up fallen flour. He carefully issued instructions, namely to watch out for ferocious flies and fierce swans. Off we set speedily flying along the fantastic trails around Fyne court. Falling over roots lying flat on the trail. Dormouse, Jackie and DitW all stumbled but did not fall fearing fatal consequences, namely a walk home rather than a fab run. It was fearfully hot and sweaty though in the woods and a relief to flip over a stile into an open breezy field full of fluttering grasses.
Simon’s checks were amazingly neat, small circles (great for flour economy!) but a little tricky to kick out in single fluid flip of the foot. We entered Broomfield Common and found freshly cut grass tracks cut through the woods leading us on to explore further a field.
A footpath crossed a fantastic garden and we found the swans and their cygnets floating on a pond. Most hounds flew past them not stopping to admire the view or garden features. But Simon had marked an  ‘R’ for his sweetie stop on the edge of the pond. Folks forced themselves to sample the delicious flavours but not for long as the fearfully large swan made its way towards the fly bitten group. Flustered Ferret flagellating flies with Michelle and others under the fresh green willow tree fearfully followed the pack. Hastily exiting the garden Bangkok forced her foot against the kissing gate… frantic shouts followed until Dormouse fearlessly forced the gate open and fled for safety in the woods. Finding the flour trail the pack headed back towards the cars via Broomfield Church, gardens full of fresh flowers and forgotten friends.
Floater had been ‘wardrobe weeding’ for the three witches cycling adventures and handed over three bags of clothes for their fund raising … fantastic and thanks. The three witches then foolishly followed the three wizards to the pub, following a fairly tortuous route to fraternize with frivolous, funky friends, sipping frothy, flavoursome fine hops and fizzy formulations.
And finally. …Simon was named at a ‘down down’in the pub “Mee,mee mee …..I’m a hasher … “so is now to be known as Brush Off. Great run Brush Off, many thanks for a flipping, fabulous, fun frolic at Fyne (Court).
