Run 697 Culmstock Inn - Why Bother & Pink2Lips

Hounds:  Bangkok, Dormouse, Steffan, Phantom, Big Bird, Floater, Derek, DiTW, David, Grasshopper, Liz, WAM, Ferret, JB  on down the Culmstock Inn

The witches flew in – on time…. A group of merry hashers already gathered, waiting for the off.
Brief instructions, we were told it wasn’t a long one…were we to believe it?  On out to the left, and then to the right taking us along the river.  We fan out, as the trail runs dry through a field, Ferret skipping over a bridge like a Billy goat gruff, (who could be the Troll I wonder…).  He returns, saying no flour, more pondering and searching, assistance is needed and we are pointed in the right direction…. over the bridge….. Through some fields and tracks and we pop out onto Silver Street.   Short bit of road running, then back onto muddy tracks and fields, the long grass in some fields  hard to run through – I think it was at this point a certain running gait of one our hashers was noted!
Out onto a lane, I check right, which proves to be wrong… on on called to the left.  A nice steady, slightly uphill run takes us to a cross-roads - obviously it is the up hill option, but it does take us to regroup, where we are treated to donuts!  I believe some even tackled two.  (although you would have to go some to beat Paperwork at the Blackdown Beauty … 11 scones….). Check it out and on on is called, we take a left and wend our way through more fields and tracks, until we cross Hemyock road and then cut through towards the river again.  The fields take us back to Culmstock.
The hares were telling the truth it was a relatively short, but perfectly formed run.  Thank you.
Once we were all settled in the pub, Ferret called attention and gave us a quick reminder of the Down Down Song, for good reason, as there was to be a naming.   The particular running gait of a particular hasher had certainly not gone unnoticed and John will now be the proud owner of the Hash name ‘Grasshopper’.
For all of you (including me!) who still don’t really know the words, a reminder below.
Traditional Down Down Song
Here's to ……….. he's true blue.
He's a hasher through and through,
He's a piss pot so they say.
Tried to get to heaven,
But he went the other way.
Drinking down, down, down, down,
Down, down, down, down,
Down, down, down, down,
Down, down, down, down.
